![]() THE HOMELESS The poor, the unskilled, the uneducated,
the disenfranchised members of our community have fallen through the cracks
in our social system. And although not criminal, they do not have adequate food
or shelter so they sleep in streets, parks, alleyways, shelters and eat from
dumpsters or community kitchens. And their numbers are growing, not just in
the United States, but globally. It's a disturbing sign. Primary solution: switch from scarcity
to abundance. There is enough food and shelter for all. This is an abundant
and infinitely vast universe. Everything that we have comes from this earth
- and returns to it. I got a castle - you got a castle. "In my father's
castle there are many mansions." "When we feel ourselves to
be the sole heirs of the universe, when the sea flows in our veins, when the
stars are our jewels, when all things are perceived as infinite and holy, what
motive can we have for covetousness or self assertion, for the pursuit of power
or the drearier forms of pleasure..." Temporary city solution: School
shelters. Schools
are primarily used during the day - allow the homeless to have shelter during
the night. Temporary
national solution: Homeless Farms. Return these people to the earth
for farming - in a warm climate - fishing, camping, boating - learning life
management skills and creative expression. It is more productive to allow them
the space to create and learn than
to lock them up in a confined space and take on all the responsibilities for
their maintenance and care. The greater an individuals' sense
of personal freedom and expression, the more they are empowered to care for
themselves and each other. Let them grow their food cook their meals. Return to the simple life, outside the cities. All food and sustenance comes from
the earth that's the direct connection.
Eventually some of it gets into stores. The exchange rate is not as clear as
the direct connection. In a deeper philosophical sense
we are all homeless separate from each
other by our walls of prejudice, perceptions and beliefs. We are all part of
the human family. Each of us is born from the union of two. We are individuals
as well as part of a larger collective, longing for a united, peaceful home. We have isolated our elders into
nursing homes, separated our very young into pre-school and child care centers.
We divide ourselves into smaller and smaller spaces and dwellings. Young and old need to be together.
Humans are social creatures and for the most part need community to thrive. home | about | music | writings | gallery | contact shul/school | health | community | communications | site map | high-holidays | message ©2007
